Cold Spring Harbor Nursery School’s teaching approach combines the best of Montessori, Bank Street, and Reggio Emilia philosophies. Our mission is to provide a warm, nurturing, and joyful learning environment that celebrates the education, growth, and difference of each and every child. Our curriculum is designed around the premise that children are naturally curious about their environment. Play is an essential ingredient of our preschool program. Through play, in an enriched environment, our children learn about themselves, their surroundings and their capabilities. Our staff and community are committed to providing a supportive environment in which students feel safe to ask questions, explore their curiosities, and in turn, develop their cognitive, social, and emotional potential. Fostering partnerships within our community instills in our children a great sense of cooperation and community.
Our curriculum is fully aligned with Cold Spring Harbor School District and the New York State Prekindergarten Foundation to the Common Core. Approximately twenty of our graduates go on to Goosehill Primary School each year.
Our Parents
By virtue of our cooperative nature, parent involvement is imperative. While instruction is the responsibility of our highly-qualified teaching staff, a volunteer executive board of parents is responsible for the administration of the school. All families are expected to volunteer as a board member or class parent, help with extended day activities, fundraisers, concerts, and other community events, making Cold Spring Harbor Nursery School a truly unique preschool environment.
